Why Image Quality Matters

Your image is the heart of your custom printed window shade. Our dye-sublimation printing process embeds ink directly into the fabric fibers, producing vibrant, fade-resistant results that last over a decade. But the final print quality depends heavily on the image you provide.

A high-resolution, well-prepared image produces a stunning shade. A low-resolution or poorly formatted image can result in pixelation, color shifts, or unexpected cropping. This guide covers everything you need to know to get the best possible print.

Supported File Formats

We accept all major image formats, from casual phone photos to professional design files.

JPEG / JPG

The most common image format. Ideal for photographs. Use highest quality setting when saving to minimize compression artifacts.

PNG

Lossless format that preserves every pixel. Great for graphics, logos, and images with text or sharp edges.

TIFF / TIF

Professional print-ready format with no compression loss. The gold standard for photographers and designers.

PSD

Native Adobe Photoshop files with full layer support. We flatten and optimize for print automatically.

How to Prepare Your Image

Follow these steps for the best print results.

1

Check Your Resolution

Your image should be at least 150 DPI at the final print size. For the sharpest results, aim for 300 DPI. A simple check: if your image looks sharp when zoomed to 100% on a large monitor, it will likely print well.

2

Verify Color Mode

Use RGB color mode for all uploads. Our dye-sublimation printers are optimized for RGB. If your image is in CMYK (common with print-shop files), convert it to RGB before uploading for accurate color reproduction.

3

Crop and Orient Your Image

Consider your window dimensions before uploading. Portrait-oriented images typically work best for most windows. Use the Design Studio to crop and position your image on the shade, but starting with the right orientation saves time.

4

Save in the Right Format

For photographs, save as JPEG at maximum quality (100%). For graphics or images with text, use PNG for crisp edges. Professional designers should use TIFF for maximum quality.

5

Upload to Your Library

Upload your image through your account's image library or directly in the Design Studio. Your images are stored securely and can be reused across multiple shade designs.

Image Best Practices

Tips from our print specialists to help you get the most out of your custom shade.

Resolution Matters

A 4000x3000 pixel image works great for shades up to about 6 feet wide at 150 DPI. For larger shades, use even higher resolution images or vector graphics.

Mind Your Orientation

Most windows are taller than they are wide. If your image is landscape-oriented, our Design Studio can crop it, but you may lose important parts of the image.

Consider the Light

Images look different when backlit. Bright, vibrant images with good contrast work best on our backlit and sheer-weave fabrics. Dark images may appear muddy on translucent materials.

Color Accuracy

Monitor colors and print colors can differ. Our team reviews every order for color quality. If exact color matching is critical, contact us for a printed proof sample.

Choosing the Right File Format

Each format has strengths. Here's how to choose the best one for your project.

JPEG: Best for Photos

Smallest file size, universal compatibility. Save at quality 90-100% to avoid visible compression. Not ideal for graphics with sharp text.

PNG: Best for Graphics

Lossless quality with transparency support. Larger files than JPEG but no compression artifacts. Perfect for logos, illustrations, and images with text.

TIFF: Best Overall Quality

Uncompressed professional format. Largest file size but zero quality loss. The preferred format for professional photographers and designers.

PSD: Best for Layered Work

Preserves all Photoshop layers and adjustments. We flatten to a single layer for printing. Ideal when collaborating with a designer on your shade.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend 300 DPI at the final print size for the sharpest results. The minimum is 150 DPI. For a standard 3-foot wide shade at 300 DPI, you need an image at least 10,800 pixels wide. Most modern smartphone cameras produce images that work well for shades up to about 4-5 feet wide.
